FitSense made one of the better known foot pod type devices (the FitSense FS-1). According to the FitSense web site, sales of FS-1 have been discontinued but spare parts may still be available.
Foot pod devices are an alternative to GPS based units, offering more accuracy than a simple pedometer but lacking some of the functionality of units with GPS like Forerunner.
